Myanmar traditional festivals, or Pagoda Festivals, are based on the traditional Burmese calendar, and are largely determined by the moon’s phase, as these dates change by the year. The biggest and most important pagoda festival is said to be the Ananda Pagoda Festival. A majority of these festivals are religious by nature, being that the majority of the population practices Theravada Buddhism. Other well-known festivals that help shape the countries character are the Htamane Festival, Water Festival, Myanmar New Year, Waso Festival, and the Festival of Light.
